In all the hullabaloo about the earth-shattering Rui on Joker revelation, nobody thought much about how to stop Murray who now has torched us for 30+ in both games. No…we weren’t defending him well in the 1st half, he was just missing open looks that he started hitting in the 2nd.
Lebron does what he’s been doing when he’s fatigued and/or injured late in games. Shoot ill-advised 3’s, missing bunnies, & turning the ball over. That’s also happened in both games. And to compound it, AD decided he wanted in on the act after hitting that 1st one. Guess he figured nothing else was working so why not.
So much of our success depends on that free throw advantage. I thought the refs were maybe giving us this one after those early whistles on the Nuggs forcing guys to the bench and disrupting their rotation (let’s be real, nobody wants to see DEN vs MIA in The Finals). Also we were in the bonus reeeaaaalll early in each of the first 3 quarters. We had a huge FTA advantage going into the fourth then the whistles dried up and so did our lead. The discrepancy was still huge until we intentionally put them on the line 8 times at the end. That thing ain’t always gonna work out in our favor.
We can start Rui but we aren’t being honest if we think he’s gonna do that every game. Hell…he couldn’t even keep it up in the 2nd half and the defensive thing never really played out the way it did in Game 1. We’re running outta options and bodies. Essentially, we played a 6 man rotation tonight with Vandy & Lonnie Walker Junior the Fourth not doing a whole lot. That also means alot more intense minutes for Lebron & AD. Not optimal.
So this is what we’ve got. We’re playing a team who is bigger than us and who shoot the 3 better than us. They’re leading us in fast break points, destroying us on the glass, and holding their own on points in the paint.
Not sure what the answer is….
