Some guys were talking about all the NBA injuries and the topic came up that Kobe was the most influential dude who made the early move away from the hi-top sneakers to the mid-risers. I’m not 100% sure on the timeline but I seem to remember the discussion & debate about taping the ankles to allow more flexibility in the mid shoe vs the stability of the hi-tops. Now, virtually nobody wears hi-tops anymore but it feels like we’re seeing multiple players rolling their ankles in almost every game. Wonder if someone will buck the trend and roll back the clock.

I wonder whether there is a measurable difference between playing in Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops or the latest and hottest low-top Jordans? There probably is. Training, nutrition, and tools were amateurish back then compared to today.
There’s such a difference in the game overall from the time I played in high school and jc to today. The players are so much bigger, better, and more athletic and players now focus on just one sport all year around. Players today are simply better.
