Don’t leave out THT. Kuz, Trezz, and THT have become the Lakers Bench Big Three.
This is a perfect example of opportunity knocking when a player gets injured. Without AD, the Lakers needed to adjust how they played and Vogel made the perfect adjustment, which was to use Trezz the same way the Clippers did last year, which is as the roll man in heavy pick-and-rolls. That’s how Trezz averaged 20 ppg and won 6MOY last season.
What we’ve learned is we were underutilizing Trezz the first half of the season, especially when he was in the game without AD. The whole concept of we could only play him with AD protecting him defensively has some validity but there are always two sides to the coin. What Trezz might give up in rim protection, he can sometimes make teams pay more at the other end with his offense. We’ve found a new weapon. And, we’ve just upped Trezz;s value to the team in the playoffs and his trade value.
I’m with you DJ: I’m only trading Kuzma for a bonafide star at this point. Trezz is different, not under contract and will be hard to hold onto given our cap situatio and the pending free agency of THT and Caruso, both of whom fit well in what we do. I’d look to improve the roster using Trezz and 2nd rounders. After that buyout market.
