The gossip was that Lonzo was all Magic and the staff wanted Tatum. That in itself probably would not have mattered because Tatum would have been traded for AD. But dumping Dlo at the height of his trade value and not signing Randle for 12 mil would have changed the dynamic. When it was time to trade for AD we could have had Dlo, Randle, Tatum, BI, Zu, Thomas Bryant and Kuz for the Pels to choose from. I think we could have come away with either BI or Tatum and probably a little more draft capital left. Our front office issues is why we are in the mess we are now. Bad move after bad move. That’s why I have zero confidence that the current front office can fix this disaster.
Again, all very difficult to say. Maybe Tatum and BI show enough promise, they stay the course. Maybe Lebron sees enough in them that he doesn’t decide to punt that first season. Hell, maybe Kobe sees so much of himself in Tatum he’s spending a ton of time with the team. There’s little to say other than many of us didn’t think Lonzo was the best pick and weren’t wrong.
Realistically, it makes no difference now other than to drive home the point that Earvin Johnson Jr belongs nowhere near making basketball decisions for a crown jewel franchise like the Lakers. It’ll only add major insult to self-inflicted injury if the Celtics win another.

For what? We just woulda traded him to the Pels for AD same as we did Lonzo.

Possibly, but who knows. Lotta butterflies flapping their wings in that scenario.
