+/- can be cheeky but it’s a simplistic viewpoint of a players value…Sexton has no value has a defender…he’s a DLo clone, except DLo gets his fair share of deflections, can chase guys around…
Collin and Pat Bev are examples of opposites. Sexton is 95% offense and Bev is 90%…yet whose more viewed as a winning player? The guy who plays defense in a league where defense is not valued in the traditional sense anymore.
Agreed he’s little more than a pint-sized Corey Magette at this point, but some of that is obviously due to the s-show that is Cleveland. The snake rots from the head that is definitely Dan Gilbert. Capt. Comic Sans is a walking testament to the fact that good things happen to good people is a crock.
That said, he’s certainly worth a role of the dice vs. the trash play we saw behind the big 2. The market for him is going to be limited, so if they really want to move on, some combo of Kuz, picks, an S&T here or there could get it done. Who TF knows, but I think some deals this summer are gonna leave us saying “They really got HIM for that bag of rocks and some used lottery tickets?”
Aloha Magicman, it’s hard to have a positive rating when your team is a collective -8.4. And it’s hard when to have a positive defensive rating when you are in one of the worst defenses in the NBA. He’s 22 and has the tools to become a good defender. It’s extremely hard to field the perfect team. We need the shooting and scoring he brings to the table. Playing in a good defense with quality players around him will make him better.
Oh I forgot to add that the Cav’s are thin at SF. Osman and Prince are their best 2 and neither are nearly as good as Kuz. I think they would be interested.
They’re gonna want to include Love in any deal for Sexton…greedy yet somehow incompetent front office…24 PPG isn’t a small thing especially with terrible spacing..he’s intriguing project..
Lakers would definitely have to take Love…who just bailed on Team USA. Not sure Love has his head in the professional sports world anymore. Unless paired with a dynamic prospect no team will want his contract, which is for the next 2 seasons. If one is honest, Love is still an upgrade over Drummond, incredibly. As good a rebounder but better scorer, probably equal to on D, at best. So what would a Love/Sexton deal take from us? If, as rumored, the Cavs are into Caruso maybe S&T Alex for $10 mil, Trezz at 9.7 mil, McKinnie 1.9 mil, NG) and KCP? That’s quite a lot to give up for an aged Love and a “Gee i really hope he’s good and getting better Sexton. Not sure AC agrees to that S&T, either unless there are only lower offers on the table and he’s looking for a big pay day. I really don’t see Dennis S&Ting to Clevelkand unless the same holds true but he’d instantly be a back up as they’re all-in on Garland. Hard to see how we get Sexton w/o Love and that requires us to, essentially, gut the team. Like Seton’s upside, don’t like Love’s downside and cap hit.
This is the main issue with 90% of the trades proposed. Kuzma and KCP are not a haul. They are decent role-players. Laker fans holding onto the Kuzma rookie season where he jacked up every shot that came his way, GMs on other teams looking at every other season as a baseline for what he would bring to a team. Like Caruso, Kyle’s best fit may be next to the King. No shame in that, lots of guys looked pretty good next to LeBron James (and. Michael Jordan, and Kobe and Shaq).
Michael, you’re ignoring the fact that Sexton only makes $6,349,671 this coming season with a qualifying offer the next season for $8,559,357. The only player you could offer to match salaries that the Cavs could have potential interest in would be THT but he’s not close to being enough. That means you have to start including other players on both sides to make a deal. You keep talking about trading for Sexton. I’d like to see the deal you think the Lakers can make to get him.
I doubt Kuz and the pick would be enough, Michael. Sexton is going to want a $30 million max deal summer after this so they Cavs aren’t going to give him up for a $13M Kuzma contract and the #22 pick in the draft. That’s no where near enough to get a 22-year old point guard who averaged over 25 ppg even if it was on a losing team. You can’t trade for him based on his rookie contract.

We also have nothing Cavs would want either.

Can’t argue with his potential, Michael. We’re in “win now” mode with LeBron and AD…Sexton isn’t close to being ready for that pressure…

Woj said most teams are just offering picks and young players…They’re not looking to rebuild again…so we’re not on the level right now.

I would send Kuz and the pick. The Cavs are around 14 mil under the cap so they would not have to send matching salaries back.
