Thanks for continuing to be one of the consciences of Lakerholics, Jamie. We may be a Lakers basketball site but there are times that demand we address and discus issues that go beyond the world of basketball. Now is surely one of those times.
As usual, I’m always looking for the silver lining in life and right now, despite the horror of people dying and our democracy being attacked, I can’t help feeling as if this is just another painful but necessary step towards building a better America and better life for our children and grandchildren. While I’m as horrified as everybody at what happened, it may turn out to be the best thing we could have hoped for.
Yes, our democracy was attacked, not just by that mob of white supremecists and misinformed idiots incapable of seeing fact from fiction, but by a president and his enablers in government and the medeia who has turned gross misinformation into a viable political strategy and undermined everything good about this country and allowed the dogs of hatred and racism to run rampant. But in the end they failed miserably. They unmasked themselves for what they are. The ultimate in fake news. Fools and criminals exposed in broad daylight.
Frankly, I would be more worried had Trump and his minions not failed than their current self destruction. While I mourn for those killed, their lives will not have been in vain. They may end up saving the country. I love James Clyburn’s suggestion to give Biden 100 days to get his administration going, get help to people who’ve lost their jobs, get the vaccines into arms, and get our economy going. And then, after a massive and deep investigation by the Justice Department, put Trump on trial in the Senate and make sure he can never hold office again in America.
Throughout this, we still won in Georgia. So I watch the news not with horror and dismay but with great hope and admiration for the people who ran those elections, respect for the lately woke politicians who at last stand up, the companies that fire the enablers and rioters. Sometimes, you do need to have someone try to burn down the house to wake everybody up to what’s happening. Trump and his enablers must pay the price. They have self destructed and will never be the force they could have been had all of this not happened. In the end, this is good thing, not a bad thing, for American and for democracy.
Yes, there is a lot of hate and anger and misinformation but finally we have real chance to change that. That’s why these are great times in my opinion and Joe Biden has a chance to become a great president.
Here’s hoping that will happen. That would be so cool!
I agree with you, Tom. That would be so cool indeed. Part of me wants LeBron to win it so he can get the last laugh against those who didn’t vote for him for MVP, especially if he can maintain the near triple doubles he’s been flirting with so far in these playoffs. However, Anthony Davis has been consistently spectacular in these playoffs and if that continues in these finals I think he will win it. Regardless, they both deserve to win it. In fact, I am more inclined for them to share it as CO-MVPs. I’m not sure if that ever happened before, but that’s a win win situation for us.
What’s really special about LeBron’s and Anthony’s relationship is neither is jealous of the other. I think LeBron wants Anthony to win Finals MVP and has worked all year to make sure AD got the touches and opportunities to play his best. Part of LeBron’s plan to win GOAT imo. So it will probably be AD who wins.
If that happens, then it would be a symbolic passing of the torch. That would signal a new era for the Lakers franchise.
I think the ONLY real thing LBJ wants is THAT Ring. : )
Yup, I am all for it. That would be emotionally sweet and grandiose.
