Aloha,
The Hawks traded Cam Reddish to the Knicks today. Reddish is the kind of player the Lakers could have really used. A long defender that can guard 2 through 5 with a decent 3 point shot. The Knicks sent Kevin Knox to the Hawks. Knox has been a disappointment for the Knicks but the Hawks received what they wanted most. A first round pick in this years draft.
And there lays the rub for the Lakers. Nunn would have been a great fit for the Hawks but the Lakers lack draft capital. Draft picks can grease the wheels for trades when you don’t have good players to offer. THT and Nunn are decent players but not good enough without draft picks when you are talking about the star players that have been attached to the Lakers.
The trade deadline period is a wonderful time for journalists and there is not a better click bait team in the NBA then the Lakers. So we will continue to see a variety of far fetched trade proposals and rumors.
Another problem for the Lakers is the stars are all under contract for at least another year. You usually see a team land a star with an underwhelming package when it’s a contract year and the trading team doesn’t want to lose the player for nothing. That’s not the case here. Teams can hold onto their star player and try again in the summer if they don’t receive a trade offer they like.
We here the Lakers are interested in in certain players and I’m sure Robb is on the phone with everyone. But our lack of draft capital and only a couple of decent players are going to hurt us.
I have seen some strange trades and I will never say never but the key for me is if we hear that another team is interested in some of our assets then I will pay attention. That hasn’t happened So far the rumors are all one sided and I’m really not anticipating a miracle trade to bail us out.
