That has to be the next move. Also, they’re doing this deal now to take advantage of the last couple weeks of increased salary matching. Come July 1st they can only take back 110% of a contract, not 125%+100,000 K.

They’re still under the salary cap and can take Ayton and send out more players, not sure if they can trade dudes whose contracts expire on 7/1 but if they can they probably will.

Dude!!! I literately said this exact same thing on the podcast last night. It’s like the last 4-5 NBA champions were mistakes, who needs a team? Even the Laker FO fell pray to that vapid way of thinking. Team beats talented individuals and crappy role-players every time. Guess it’s like dare devils and the Grand Canyon, just because every other dare devil failed to jump across in a motor cycle doesn’t mean I will!

It’s going to have to change. The Suns are at the 2nd apron with 4 guys. What I will never understand is why the average rank and file NBA player continues to vote for CBA that heavily favors the stars.

This right here is what I’ve been saying forever. I’d say make the max contract 20% of cap, but small markets will revolt since they’ll fear 5 max guys on the Lakers.

Greatest longevity of all time. Genetics. Hard work. Modern science. Luck. He held it together longer than any of the other all timers, I’ll give him that. His late peak is a feat. But his career as a Laker, other than the bubble, has been trash. His attempt at GM have been his undoing, with the Westbrook trade his Coup de Grace.

What makes me frustrated about that is that you would think the Lakers would gain grounds on them in the standings but, instead, we end up racking up a losing streak. Makes you wonder when we would ever catch up. It’s about time to catch those teams in the standings.

Not gonna make up any ground playing .400 ball. Still two losses back. Knicks aren’t a great squad, they’ll be lucky to get out of the play-in.
Most of the teams immediately ahead are playing tonight. Here’s hoping Memph beats Portland, GS beats Minny, Tor beats Utah, and ATL beat PHX. Doubt Hou beats OKC, but we can hope.

Gap’s getting wider. Still in 13th. Hopeful for a win tonight, but not really making up any ground playing .500 ball or below.
The only smart move would be to blow it up at the deadline, get what you can for AD before he earns a permanent spot on the injured list, jettison Rob, have Jeannie move away from basketball decisions, and rid themselves of Klutch.

They shoulda did that sh!t before the season even began but..ya know…they ain’t in the habit of making smart moves. So they definitely ain’t doing nunna that sh!t you listed within a week, especially being only a few games outta the play-in & 1 more outta the 6th seed. Most of the conference is between 6-4 & 4-6 over the last 10 games…nobody’s running away and our FO seems to be content with just making the playoffs so……here we are.

True but 4 of 6 teams at the top of West are all on losing streaks.

So are the Lakers showing again they can’t even really compete with mediocre squads, particularly on the road. 7 games before the dealine, all of which they’re likely underdogs. Maybe they win 2? 3? At around 25-32 or so, trade or no trade, making even the 10 spot may be too much to envision.
They could well be sunk before the deadline.

The balance is the last 15 games have only one game against a team over .500. Schedules balance out. We just need to stay healthy and close playing our best basketball of the year. That’s possible. Just need a little help from the front office.

The last 15 are no cakewalk either. Some sub-500 teams but many will also be looking for potential play-in berths. Only 2 games against tankers as of today, Houston and Orlando. Orlando might feel chippy and take that game. The rest are still playing for something, sub-500 or not. A home-road b2b at Chicago is a schedule maker’s loss right there, but they could be out of it by then. No nights off. Unless the team catches fire, gets, and stays healthy, it’ll be tough to punch a playoff ticket.

It’s strange. They won’t have a MLE to work with and they don’t have a lot of guys returning and no draft picks. The 2nd unit will be min guys. That’s not a good thing with a bunch of injury prone players. Maybe they trade Ayton for a few role players.
