Thanks for posting that, Sean. Great article from Our Esquina by José de Jesus Ortiz. Man, all those memories listening to Chick Hearn and Vin Scully, the two greatest sports announcers ever, plus Dick Enberg calling all those legendary UCLA championships. Those were heady times for SoCal sports fans.
I’m so impressed by the heady poise and clutch play of the Bruins in getting to the Final Four. Jaquez, Juzang, Bernard, Campbell! They’re so good individually as well as a team. Going to be tough to beat the Zags but Mick has them believing in themselves and their defense The way they have come back in this tournament has been miraculous.
The immigrant story of the family is the kind of story that so many American families share and why we need to remember we are all immigrants unless Native Americans. I’m half Chinese. My sister married a Mexican and I have a nephew nephew who’s Mexican, Chinese, and White. Johnny Juzang’s dad is Creole and his mom Vietnamese. The Bruins are essentially part of the American Dream.

Great article Sean. thanks for the history lesson. Jacquez is the one that did my Spartans in. He couldn’t get it going last night but he’s a good player. As far as looking to the sky before pitching I remember Luis “El Tiante” Tiant doing that in the 70s. The Cuban born Tiant was a heck of a pitcher. Laker Tom probably remember a few games of Tiant shutting down his beloved Yankees.
