They came out and said they weren’t up as u recall. Same ratio with the Drowning ratings. More Bullshit than fact

The numbers are the numbers..I’m not gonna dispute that. But I’m not sure they take into account the seriousness of these injuries and how many high-profile players have gone down. The 24/7 nature of social media makes us much more aware of every injury and it makes it seem worse than the past. Some of these injuries can probably be blamed on the short off-season & compressed schedule but that ain’t what took LeBron out..that kinda contact will put you on the shelf no matter the circumstance. Then you look at rookies like Wiseman & Melo..they got hurt but had plenty of off-season. Lotta factors to this stuff and if it was easy to figure out then you’d see a drop in injuries.
-
Good points conditioning can break the cycle of soft tissue injuries the big deal on top of that two practices a month 3 games in 4 nights plus the travel? That’s a cocktail for getting the moneybag 💰💰💰 but dropping the ball 🏀🏀🏀🏀
-
You’ve talked about the steaming numbers in the past MS and I remember you said pretty much any young person you knew streamed it…I think the traditional tv data is flawed anyway this pandemic 😷 changed so many things including our viewing habits. Industry needs to adjust the way it does the numbers.
-
I got rid of Directv a few months ago and don’t miss it a bit. Watched our final game on a streaming feed from Australia! Burger King is called Hungry Jack’s down under..lol. Thing is, they still got that commercial in front of my eyes and that’s the ultimate goal and the reason why you’ll never see these TV contracts decrease in cost no matter what the neilsen ratings are.
Live sports is still one of the few ways to ensure that the ads get seen.

The training thing is such an inexact science and what works for one guy could be totally wrong for another guy. LeBron famously invests a ton of his own money into his training & fitness and it shows in his injury history. But even he made a misstep that one year he severely cut his body fat and then had stamina issues in the playoffs. But that vegan diet seems to have worked well for CP3.
I don’t doubt that AD works hard on his strength & conditioning but based on his injury history it might be time to try something different. KG said the same the other day. I was kinda joking about Kareem & the yoga but it’s hard to argue the results he got from that and some other things he did back in the day.
-
Another thing we have to look at when talking about traditional ratings is the international market. That’s the real growth sector and the NBA taps into it better than most any sport other than soccer. That’s why they’re pushing so hard for Luka and Giannis and now even Joker to be the new faces of the league. It’s hard to overstate how much Yao did for the league in delivering the China market. Made billions for the league and the Chinese are still a huge fan base even though there’s no Asian superstar at the moment. Look at what the league is also doing in Africa right now…huge untapped market

So a study came out…said that athletes wheels start slowing down for good at 34…It’s hard to predict decline…35, 36, 37…
-
It comes fast. Peyton won an MVP at 37 a year later he couldn’t throw a ball 30 yards down the field…It happens really fast…

Thanks for sharing, Sean. I am always amazed at how much general information you are able to provide us here. I am generally in agreement with your assessment of a player’s age at 34 versus father time.
But when it comes to other sports that are less physical such as golf, is there any age limit where the player starts to slow down? For example, Phil Mickelson just won a major at 50. What about tennis? That should give me a good idea when Serena Williams should call it quits. She just lost at the French Open. Seems like she can’t get to that 24th title anytime soon.
You made very good points on Lowery, and John M also made a point by adding Steve Nash as another example. Just curious.
-
Thanks for the compliment buba. Some of that comes from a life and circumstances. I was sick 😷 w/Type 1 Diabetes so I stayed inside and read a lot…

A few old mfers have been defying father time lately, but the majority fall off beginning around 30 and are pretty washed by that 34 year old mark. There’s no denying biology as that’s when natural testosterone production falls off a cliff.
Funny enough, the two “union” leaders that vehemently protested any HGH testing seem to be holding up remarkably well far past the typical drop off age. Coincidence? You tell me . . .-
-
IDK, HGH is touted as the fountain of youth for dudes well beyond that. Gerry Butler basically admitted that his 300 physique was pretty much all hgh fueled as he was pushing 40. Barry Bonds massive dome and 70 home runs were mostly attributed to it as well. I got no evidence besides anecdotal, but if it looks like a duck . . .

No LeBron no Steph injured/hobbled/unavailability for Harden, Embiid etc.
Casuals are never 👎 coming back after the Big F U in the summer.
They’re not gonna have hard cores like me glued either.
Silver wanted the 💰 bag of money 💰 and this what you get:
Slapped together inferior product for consumption and AD revenue.
Turns out that’s a piss poor business mode.
-
Dude I could not have out it any better. People wanted to put the * on last season’s NBA Finals in the Bubble but what happens when 1/2 the wattage is taken away from a toaster? You get shitty toast. SIlver should know that the league and the teams are not what drives revenue but he never comes out on this side because it’s the last shred of leverage the owners have over the players at this point. The player is the thing.

The greatest advantage of having three superstars could be that when injury hits, you still have two superstars to carry you. Nets still beating up Bucks by 16 points with 7 minutes left in game, the same pattern that allowed them to weather injuries to all three superstars during the regular season.
Imagine if the Lakers had made the trade for Lowry how much better they would have been as a team with Kyle making plays at the point and shooting 40% on 7.2 attempts per game? Lakers need to find a way to get a third superstar like Kyle Lowry or a player like Myles Turner who can be a superstar in his role for next season.
-
Not sure when you’re gonna realize that Lowry barely played during the last month of the season. First he had some kinda foot infection then some back issues. Some of the missed time had to do with the Rapts being outta contention but let’s not act like he was guaranteed to play significant minutes either. Coulda easily been “Street Clothes Jr” and we traded away THT for the privilege. And for whatever reason (I never really looked into it), most reports I saw had us not being able to sign him over the summer.
Bottom line…we weren’t beating the Suns with AD out, LBJ hobbled, and whatever condition Lowery was in. Gotta give credit where it’s due…Suns balled out.
-
Yeah, Lowry had some issues and missed some time but some of that was the Raps not being contenders. And I do agree it probably wouldn’t have been enough to go all the way although it might have helped get past the first round.
Our biggest weapon to upgrade in free agency is the NTMLE for $10M, which also forces the team to be fiscally responsible to avoid getting into the tax and only having the TMLE for $5M. Committing that to Drummond would be a massive mistake in my mind, unless Phil Handy thinks he could transform Drummond into lob finisher and rim protector. That should be used for high percentage, high volume 3-point shooter (McBuckets?) or an elite 3&D point guard (Derek Rose?), not an old school, non-stretch, poor rim protecting, touch fit Andre Drummond.
Credit the Suns? Absolutely. Best player in the series clearly Booker. Best big in the series and apologies for disrespecting him before the series, he was dominant. Book was the superstar but Deandre was the Suns’ anchor in the series and second best player on the floor. And I would love the Lakers to have a back up 3&D point guard like Cameron Payne. What an addition he was. And i was always one who thought CP3 would have been great on the Lakers. Hey, Suns are much better than I and the Lakers expected. Others are going to find that out.

Hope can also make team make bad decisions about what they need to compete for a championship. The Lakers overestimated how good they were in the bubble, ignoring that LeBron and AD were both 100% rested and healthy AND had outlier 3-point shooting percentages in the bubble playoffs. Looks like the front office still believes they don’t need to make major changes to complete for the championship next season.
That could prove to be a serious misjudgement as team needs rim protection and lob threat from their center (neither of which Drummond can deliver) and high percentage, high volume 3-point shooting (which the current roster cannot deliver), and quality point guard ball security and elite playmaking (which Schroder cannot deliver).

Damian Lillard's preference for the Blazers next head coach is Jason Kidd, per @ChrisBHaynes

And this is where things get interesting because the Blazers aren’t the only interviews Chauncey will get either.
-
Indiana could fire Bjorkgren, Kings ditto for Walton. Firing coaches doesn’t affect your salary cap. It can affect the way you allocate money 💰 💴 elsewhere 👀 👀 though. 😉 😉
-
Jody Allen will eventually sell the Blazers because the Trust has the Seahawks who print money 💴 💴 💴 for Jody and she gets to hang out with her friends…

The NBA’s offseason coaching carousel is well and truly spinning.

@Dame_Lillard if you had the opportunity to sign with any team in the league today other than trailblazers what team would it be?-
To his credit Dame has played 9 years in the NBA. Excluding his rookie year, he’s made sure the Blazers have made the Playoffs in 8 straight years. Including advancing in the first NBA play-in tournament….
-
In 8 of his playoff seasons, Dame was bounced by a Western Conference opponent that made the Finals or lost to a team that was bounced by a,Western Conference champion., 6 times…
-
Dame teams don’t lose to inferior squads. They lose to Champions or better comp that loses to the West Champs…
-
They will never 👎 trade him to us. Stranger things have happened recently though…LOL…he’s the heart ❤️ of a champion, he’s just in the wrong locale…
-
-
-
-
Dame would be a prefect fit! Whatver Portland wants cept LBJ and AD, in fact take all the rest of em!
-
He wants to be loyal but they can’t get the pieces up there. Too good to get high draft picks and too “podunk” (lol) to attract top free agents. This is why I’ll never fault KD for his moves. Hurt his image a bit but nobody can take those rings & finals mvp’s from him.

Steve, Giannis and Kobe are the last MVPs who were mid 1st rounders…Nikola was a 41st pick and was never considered an MVP…he’s an inspiration like Charles Barkley that you don’t need to be carved from the Gods to win an MVP. Can your IQ and Skills meet in the middle and have you reach your full potential…
