In all honesty, because of his contract, his willingness to tell people what he thinks they want to hear (invariably does the opposite)…he’s going to end up in Toronto, Sacramento, or Minnesota…It won’t be LA or New York…
-
And Dork Elvis pulls this BS all the time…a price point is created and he thinks well if Harden was traded for all that surely Be- no Daryl..,

Don’t buy this one…nope. He doesn’t need a shot creator. He is one already.
He needs another star that can shoot and defend.

Oh, by the way, what do you make of Simone Biles’s exit from the gymnastics final. She cited mental health as the reason. Could it be fatigue, the weight of perfection pressure, or simply her age at 24 since gymnastics is more suited for younger athletes? Looks more like her body is starting to betray her. We recently touched on mental health issue here regarding Kevin Love. What’s your take?
-
-
She’s is the GOAT of her sport. So if this about mental health due to physical issues I think it’s important for her feel the joy and peace of mind again before committing to anything

Thanks, guys, I like both answers from you and Tom. It could also help explain why Naomi Osaka was eliminated in the third round. She said afterward that this would be”undoubtedly the greatest athletic achievement and honor I will ever have in my life.” ” I definitely feel there was a lot of pressure for this.” So, yeah, being mentally right is as important as being physically right.

Interesting that Lakers were looking at somebody with the #13 pick and willing to give up Kuzma to get it. Wonder whom they were interested in drafting? Or was it to get a better pick to trade?

Great post, Sean.
I haven’t been a big follower of international basketball competition so I don’t remember Oscar Schmidt scoring 55 points except as a reference for Luka’ great game.
I do remember Len Bias, however, and his death after using cocaine and how the Celtics karma seemed to be permanently damaged after that. Great player.
T-Mac got lost in Orlando. Put him in LA or NY and he would be in many of those conversations about great point guards. The size of the market can impact a player’s legacy.
-
Luka gave Oscar’s record a scare but he honored the Basket Ball Gods and did the right thing. Slovenia has a solid chance to medal. 🇸🇮
-
Not having practical knowledge of medical protocols I will certainly defer to your expertise on Len but I still feel like it’s a blow the Celtics never recovered from.
-
As for Penny, he was the man. Like so many great players his body betrayed him before he. Oils truly etch his name in NBA stone and of course Shaq coming west to LA didn’t help.

Both teams win in this trade. Adams will set lane-opening screens for Ja and finish at the rim and do his Steven Adams thing. Valanciunas will be a nice pick and pop release for that whole team and is every bit the banger Adams is sparing Zion that in the regular season. Like the Lakers, Pelicans will likely play Zion more at the 5 in the playoffs, should they make them. This also frees up money for the expected and anticipated Lonzo Ball re-signing which also makes sense. Griffin doesn’t lose players for nothing one has to assume he had a strong inclination, if not outright shadow handshake, that Lonzo was leaning strongly towards returning for the right price.
Odd man out is Eric Bledsoe who had no real role in NOLA and now has no real role in Memphis. 2 years left on his deal but after the upcoming season only a portion (I wan to say 3-4 mil out of 18) is guaranteed so I won’t be too surprised to see EB dealt one more time. Or Memphis could try and play he and Ja together but that feels like it’s just sucking up decent Grayson Allen minutes and EB doesn’t space the floor.
What does this mean for the Lakers? Lonzo Ball (whom I did not have coming to LA) is all but guaranteed to stay in NOLA where he has done a wonderful job resurrecting his NBA career, finding a decent groove with Zion and I expect him to continue improving on that situation. As I said on the podcast yesterday, not everyone from LA wants to come home to LA. They have houses here they can return to all off-season long. Lonzo’s a great fit in NOLA, will experience a fraction of the pressure and scrutiny he would get here, and knows where he fits and what is expected. It likely is a comfort to him not having to deal with LA.
-
Agree with the Lonzo piece. Didn’t really handle the LA thing while he was here but N.O. is a whole different animal. Most unique city in the league and a good low-pressure town to develop while under the radar. That’s a nice core with BI, Val, Lonzo, & Zion.
-
The dude had a mountain of pressure heaped on him before he ever stepped on the practice court when Magic predicted his jersey would hang on the wall over it. It was all downhill from there, especially after LeBron happened to mention how awesome and wonderful it would be to have AD on the team. It was and is both awesome and wonderful but Lonzo ain’t silly, he knew that meant he was the piece that would grease that wheel along with 2 out of 3 other of the Baby Lakers. Only was a matter of which one remained.
NOLA is like a big-little city. Plenty of culture, neighborly vibe, parties of all sorts and the best part is they’re obsessed with the Saints so there’s no rabid fan base over-analyzing everything you do. I love that place, very grounded and strong bones, old in cool (and sometimes frightening) ways. Awesome music and food and if you’re looking for “not Los Angeles” you found it.

The great thing about NO is that you can be famous and still walk around without being bothered too much. The locals don’t really give af..lol.

Defense wins medals. USA not a team, just a collection of self-absorbed talent. Aussies, Canada, and France just as likely to take home the gold. Did Dennis whine his way onto the Germany team? I can’t remember…

-
+/- can be cheeky but it’s a simplistic viewpoint of a players value…Sexton has no value has a defender…he’s a DLo clone, except DLo gets his fair share of deflections, can chase guys around…
-
Agreed he’s little more than a pint-sized Corey Magette at this point, but some of that is obviously due to the s-show that is Cleveland. The snake rots from the head that is definitely Dan Gilbert. Capt. Comic Sans is a walking testament to the fact that good things happen to good people is a crock.
That said, he’s certainly worth a role of the dice vs. the trash play we saw behind the big 2. The market for him is going to be limited, so if they really want to move on, some combo of Kuz, picks, an S&T here or there could get it done. Who TF knows, but I think some deals this summer are gonna leave us saying “They really got HIM for that bag of rocks and some used lottery tickets?”

Aloha Magicman, it’s hard to have a positive rating when your team is a collective -8.4. And it’s hard when to have a positive defensive rating when you are in one of the worst defenses in the NBA. He’s 22 and has the tools to become a good defender. It’s extremely hard to field the perfect team. We need the shooting and scoring he brings to the table. Playing in a good defense with quality players around him will make him better.
-
Oh I forgot to add that the Cav’s are thin at SF. Osman and Prince are their best 2 and neither are nearly as good as Kuz. I think they would be interested.
-
Can’t argue with his potential, Michael. We’re in “win now” mode with LeBron and AD…Sexton isn’t close to being ready for that pressure…
-
Lakers would definitely have to take Love…who just bailed on Team USA. Not sure Love has his head in the professional sports world anymore. Unless paired with a dynamic prospect no team will want his contract, which is for the next 2 seasons. If one is honest, Love is still an upgrade over Drummond, incredibly. As good a rebounder but better scorer, probably equal to on D, at best. So what would a Love/Sexton deal take from us? If, as rumored, the Cavs are into Caruso maybe S&T Alex for $10 mil, Trezz at 9.7 mil, McKinnie 1.9 mil, NG) and KCP? That’s quite a lot to give up for an aged Love and a “Gee i really hope he’s good and getting better Sexton. Not sure AC agrees to that S&T, either unless there are only lower offers on the table and he’s looking for a big pay day. I really don’t see Dennis S&Ting to Clevelkand unless the same holds true but he’d instantly be a back up as they’re all-in on Garland. Hard to see how we get Sexton w/o Love and that requires us to, essentially, gut the team. Like Seton’s upside, don’t like Love’s downside and cap hit.
-
-
-
This is the main issue with 90% of the trades proposed. Kuzma and KCP are not a haul. They are decent role-players. Laker fans holding onto the Kuzma rookie season where he jacked up every shot that came his way, GMs on other teams looking at every other season as a baseline for what he would bring to a team. Like Caruso, Kyle’s best fit may be next to the King. No shame in that, lots of guys looked pretty good next to LeBron James (and. Michael Jordan, and Kobe and Shaq).
-
-
Michael, you’re ignoring the fact that Sexton only makes $6,349,671 this coming season with a qualifying offer the next season for $8,559,357. The only player you could offer to match salaries that the Cavs could have potential interest in would be THT but he’s not close to being enough. That means you have to start including other players on both sides to make a deal. You keep talking about trading for Sexton. I’d like to see the deal you think the Lakers can make to get him.
-
I would send Kuz and the pick. The Cavs are around 14 mil under the cap so they would not have to send matching salaries back.
-
I doubt Kuz and the pick would be enough, Michael. Sexton is going to want a $30 million max deal summer after this so they Cavs aren’t going to give him up for a $13M Kuzma contract and the #22 pick in the draft. That’s no where near enough to get a 22-year old point guard who averaged over 25 ppg even if it was on a losing team. You can’t trade for him based on his rookie contract.
