Thanks for your candidness. As far as life goes, we are once a man and twice a child. You are born a child and become a man at a later stage. But once you get very old you become a child all over again, and you would have to be taken care of again just like a child.
I can see why some people don’t want to live to be very old. You would simply feel like enough is enough. But the main factor could be losing your ability to do things that you like to do without help.
The desire not to live longer applies to both rich and poor.
On one hand, why would a rich man choose to end his life when he has it all?
It is because material things can never satisfy a human soul. People who aren’t rich (which is most people) are more likely to believe in the delusion that if they just got the material things they wanted, they would be satisfied. But when the rich people got it, they realized they still lacked something. People still keep craving something, not knowing what can truly satisfy them. It’s because nothing in this world can satisfy a human soul.On the other hand, poor people still chase after their dreams of financial success or whatever it is – it keeps them going, thinking it’ll make them happy. But when you’e rich and have almost everything materialistic, you realize it’s not enough. To poor people, they still love money and all that this world can offer them because they’ve never experienced it. But to the rich, it all gets boring and dreary. Everything on earth seems dull.
So, these are some of the reasons why some people prefer not to live longer.-
Great points, Buba. I will be 78 years old this December. My wife will be 75 later this year. We’ve been married for over 50 years and have 1 son and 1 grandson and 2 granddaughters.
I been lucky enough and dumb enough to have made and lost a lot of money during my life chasing one dream or another. In the end, you finally realize that all that counts are the kind of person you became and the family and friends you have.
My father lived to 101 so the questions you raised are paramount in my life. I’ve dedicated myself to making sure my wife and I enjoy every day we have left. Took my a lifetime to learn how to love someone and I intend to enjoy every single day we have left.
Have a great day, Buba. Looking forward to your visiting San Francisco someday so we can meet in person.

Hi, Tom.
Thank you so much for such a great response. It was well written and full of meaning. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I would like to take a moment to congratulate you and your wife on the Golden Jubilee of your marriage. That is a rare feat. I would also like to congratulate you both on your Diamond Jubilees for your birthdays. Too bad you and Larry Bird have the same birthday. You got my drift? lol! I wish you and your wife many more years filled with happiness.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Tom. Lots of events going on here today.
I think it means that both people are wasting too much time arguing. Maybe one side had more truth or reason, but while they were wasting time and energy going on and on, they could have been doing better things with their time. Also, after arguing with someone for about 15 minutes you should be able to tell if they are really open to being persuaded or not. If you sense they aren’t open, then you’d be wrong to keep wasting your breath. A good question to ask near the beginning of an argument or discussion is “What evidence would be enough to persuade you to change your mind?”

Hiking 3 miles on fire road Mon thru Friday with my wife and a neighbor’s German Shepherd and Husky mix. Sat and Sun still the weekend that I take off.

Tom, great to see that you are still active hiking and staying in shape. That’s something I wish I could do. I used to be active in such things but not anymore, and is showing in my being out of shape. I am starting to look like those retired NBA players who suddenly look out of shape the moment they retired. I hate seeing my belly starting to get a little bit bigger. Got to find me a way back to the gym.

It’s funny. I spent most of my adult life trying to lose weight but never could seem to do it. From a perfect size 40 until I was 40, I saw my weight 9 months ago hit 199.8 lbs, which is a lot for a 5′ 9″ senior citizen.
At any rate, the extra weight was really hurting my health. I started wheezing when breathing. I was riding a lifecycle in the garage for an hour every day but struggling with Covid keeping us locked in the house.
What changed for me was I just decided to change my entire eating habits, which is easier to do when you’re retired. I get up in the morning, take care of some chores, and the hike 3 miles everyday. My first meal is at noon. My other meal is at 5:00 pm. So I’m basically eating only two meals per day and fasting for over 18 hours.
I eat what I want but stop when I’m no longer hungry. I often split a sandwich for lunch and dinner. And I still drink 2 or 3 mini-cokes a day. It works for me. I’m down to 165 lbs and have a goal of 155 lbs. Just need to find a way to exercise regularly and change your eating habits. A lot of the things I did I learned from friends and books. It’s worth it though as I feel much better and all of my little health issues went away when I lost the weight.
Good luck, Buba. Just Do It!

Not so sure of this one, Buba. Patience has its limits and they’re getting shorter and shorter every year. Racism. Climate Change. Poverty. Hunger. War. Patience can also mean injustice. Of course, I’m a very impatient person.
