    I am back!!

Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I last checked in on the blog. I wanted to share with you all why I’ve been absent for the past month and a half. Unfortunately, my mother-in-law passed away on August 12th, 2024, and just six days later, my own mother passed away on August 18th. It’s been an incredibly challenging time for my wife, as her mom was her best friend. On a more positive note, my mother lived to the impressive age of 104 and would have turned 105 this November, so instead of mourning her passing, I chose to celebrate her remarkable life. Following my mother-in-law’s funeral, I traveled to my home country of The Gambia to take care of family matters. I’ve just returned, and I reached out to Tom to let everyone know what I’ve been dealing with. I hope he was able to relay the message. Despite the slow summer, I’m grateful to be back and not to have missed much in the Lakers’ world during this offseason. I’m looking forward to starting this new chapter with my wife and immersing myself once again in following our team. It’s good to be back!

    • What a pair of AMAZING WOMEN in your life, Buba. 104-105!
Wow. We too celebrate their long and wonderful life. You and your wife may be blessed with great genes, Buba. Welcome back.

      • Thanks, Tom. I truly appreciate the comments. I just can’t wait for the season to start. But it is right around the corner.

    • That is a great quote, Buba. It’s one of the things I think about every New Year’s Day. Am I doing the exact same resolutions as last year?

    • Hi folks, now that the free agency is here and the blog is going to be active with Lakers news, I am going to post my last “quote of the day” on Monday and pause till things start to slow down and boredom takes over. For now, I am hoping Rob would give us a better roster than last season.

    • Feels like this one is for LT whom I know is hoping against hope against reality that something shakes loose. Wish I could believe that it will…but I do not.

      • Hi, Jamie. You are hitting my man a little hard, Lol. I know Tom has always been an optimistic man and doesn’t easily get swayed by anything other than what he believes in.

        • It’s all live Buba. Tom is the only blogger whom I’ve met in person way back when for lunch and convo to be a part of this fun and wonderful enterprise. Also it’s not that I disagree that Russ will be an issue in terms of on and off court fit and chemistry but that J think the Lakers have already kicked all the tires in all the scenarios and have largely been met with no thank you or try back later. If the right playet(s) we’re coming into free agency I would think differently, but it’s a weak free agency in terms of true max players. Couple that with most teams with it both not wanting to play Russ for pay or pay Russ not to play and you have this situation. But I have always admired Tom’s dedication to finding the positive angle. Even if I don’t see it as being realistic. A good convo needs the dreamer as much as it needs a realist.

          • Jamie, that’s a great story to share. That’s what makes your relationship with Tom so unique. You both can have different opinions but always find a common ground which always turns out to be more fertile. Always good to see you both handle it well. Thanks, man.

    • The true explorer can see both.

      • Thanks, Jamie. I agree with “the true explorer” take.

But often we become so focused on reaching our goals, that we forget to enjoy the journey. Guard against becoming so single minded that your goals and dreams take over your life and prevent you from experiencing what life has to offer along the way.

Although it is necessary to keep your eyes on your goals and work steadfastly in the direction of your dreams, life is meant to be lived, and things that come along the way are part of it.

They are usually right under your nose but you can’t see them because you are too focused on bigger goals.

        • It’s funny cause I used to help run a theatre company in Long Beach, CA and for many years it was quite a lot of fun. When it became like an unpaid job J had ti stop and move onto more personally reaarding pursuits. Sometimes a journey can be about realizing you should maybe be on a different one. Will always love and aporeciate all that journey brought into my life but am also quite enjoying the nee one(s).

Well said, Jamie. You are right on spot. I agree.

    • LOL. Is that a sign that we should trade for Kyrie?

      • Thanks for responding, Tom. Everything is possible. Kyrie joining the Lakers is a possibility even though I don’t like the bad stuff that he can’t seem to shake off. Who knows, we may see him in purple and gold. That may be the first time I may have to forgive him.

    • Here’s hoping Rob Pelinka has learned from his mistakes and does not repeat what happened with the roster we had this past season. And it starts with the Thursday night draft. Please give us a better roster this time, Rob.
