Another great Lakers Fast Break podcast directed by podcaster extraordinaire Gerald Glassford. Join Gerald, Rafael, and me to discuss Rafael being pulled over by the cops in TX while on his bike, the unbelievable season saving shot by OG, the Nets hiring of Steve Nash, and the challenge the Lakers face with the crazy small ball Rockets starting tonight.
Can’t wait for tonight’s Game 1 of the West semi-finals tonight. I’m hoping Frank Vogel will change his starting lineup and either start Kuzma and move AD to the five or start Morris at the five. This is just not a series where McGee or Howard are good fits.
The surprise move might be to start Markieff Morris at the five instead of JaVale McGee. This is a change that would not require AD to move to the five or the bench to lose Kuzma’s defense and scoring so it might be the kind of move Frank Vogel could be more comfortable making than starting AD at the five. I would be happy with this change and it might fit Frank’s philosophies better than starting AD.
Frank is a defense first coach so I do think there’s a chance that he will make a lineup change to be able to better defend the Rocket’s five-shooters-out offense. Frank isn’t going to make a lineup change for offensive reasons but he just might for defensive reasons. You heard it here first. Go, Lakers!
This was one of the most entertaining podcasts we’ve done yet so don’t miss it. And remember to give us that five star review on Apple Podcasts when you’re done.
Man…sucky story Rafael. There really is no good answer for why law enforcement sucks so very badly at there job. I don’t know what the amount of public money and focus has been on making this better and it’s astounding we still subject the African American community to these kinds of indignities. Chill is a skill.
Let’s not encourage his trade machinations… Kudos to Chris Paul for putting forth an All Star caliber season, shows he still has some mojo and that the Thunder have some solid pieces. We don’t need another pound the ball into the floor for 17 seconds player, we got LeBron, we got AD, we wouldn’t be whining about Danny green if he had played more to type (and if one is honest he’s been pretty good on defense, not elite, but solid). He’s not the answer to a question I’m not even sure needs be asked.
James can be rundown on the defensive end, make him bang (yeah he’ll flop his way into 3 or 4 team fouls, it’s worth it), make him work and he’ll drop in efficiency. Westbrook needs to be forced into a jump shooter. Do those two things and I like our chances. In my opinion, at this moment just because he’s rested, Russ is the greater threat if that leg is solid.
Frank isn’t starting a small ball line up in game 1. Probably not in game 2 no matter the result of game 1. Team’s just don’t try things to try them in game 1. You don’t adapt to something you haven’t seen yet.
Contrast in styles indeed. The NBA version of muay thai vs. a traditional pugilist skill set. I’m calling Lakers in 6.
There’s a reason why Russ “takes over” ball handling duties in crunch time, he’s not the shooter Harden is.
Nash helming the Nets is news for next season. Biggest ding against is a lack of experience. Coaching is a grind different than playing. We’ll see if he can reach planet Kyrie which is always a huge question mark.
I’ll add that the length of Nash’s deal and the lack of a team option (can you even do that with a coach???) was a slight surprise. I do think comparing him to Kerr is too simplistic, the better comparison is D-Fish in NYC. Kerr was an assistant under Popovich, was a GM in Phoenix, a wealth of varied and excellent influence and learning sources.
Just say not to CP3 on his $45 million dollar deal… James is bionic but we don’t want to see him toiling like he has to on this squad.
LT and his all stretch team…
You are may be right but the argument that you don’t adapt to something you haven’t seen yet is specious. The Rockets don’t have the personnel to play anything but how they did in the regular season. Lakers know what’s coming.
The Lakers have already seen what the Rockets to three times this season and lost two of those games. Not adapting would be foolish. Thinking the Lakers are going to wait until Game 2 or 3 to play differently than they did in the regular season doesn’t make any sense.
Additionally, Frank has already said they’re looking at a wide range of moves at both ends to better combat what the Rockets do on offense and defense. We may not know what changes Frank is going to make but there’re going to be changes. That’s for sure.
