After the game, Redick addressed the decision to re-insert Knecht into the starting five, per Daniel Starkand of Lakers Nation.
“I think sometimes you just gotta look at numbers,” Redick said. “We felt like the DK stuff was great and tonight was trying to figure out a way to get a win. Knowing that we were gonna be ‘redding’ 1-5 as the game plan, it just felt like a game that we could get him in there.”
Redick also mentioned that they are constantly reviewing the analytics, but that you need time to see how those numbers play out.

The problem with the initial decision to replace DLO with Cam is that DLO to the bench was a huge success but Cam to the starters did not generate a winning starting lineup or a shooting guard who could post a positive plus/minus.
The initial decision worked for the bench but not for the starters. The correction of replacing Reddish with Knecht corrected the initial decision. Good and correct adjustment by JJ Redick. Cost team 3 games but also allowed JJ to make the correct adjustment this time by Dalton replacing Cam rather than Rui.
What this signals is that Knecht is the team’s shooting guard of the future, which ultimately could lead to the Lakers trading for an elite point guard defender like Marcus Smarty to pair with Dalton and moving Austin Reaves to the bench as team’s 6th man.
