Frank has supposedly embraced analytics when it comes to the modern offense starting with the three-ball but he has never wavered from his traditional belief that defense starts with rim protection.
The problem is how do you protect the rim when the Rockets play 5-out to pull your rim protectors away from the rim and expose them as defenders on the perimeter?
One answer is a hybrid zone, specifically a triangle and two, where you double Harden, lock down on the corners to prevent corner threes, and keep AD in the middle to protect the rim. Time for Frank to play some zone if he wants to protect the rim.
