Lakers should offer Dennis $10M per year to backup Russ. He keeps his Bird rights, gets more money, and better place to rehab his brand. Lakers get backup for Russ and trade chip for deadline.
Note: I would only do this if Dennis was in the right frame of mind and understood and accepted his role. Lakers could work with him to find a better option for him on another team.

I have always liked your backup option for Dennis. That’s about the most viable option for both sides.

They didn’t penny-pinch with Caruso just so they could blow the tax bill out of the water with the guy who no-showed in the playoffs, rejected fair extensions (multiple times) and was a locker room distraction. We have a backup PG in Nunn and potentially THT. If nobody wants him now for $10 mil (which they don’t) nobody is going to want him at the deadline for the same price unless you give away picks to move him which we don’t really have many to spare. Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised of LBJ and AD were like “No Rob, let the man walk because we don’t want him in the locker room.” That wouldn’t surprise me at all. We’re done doing Dennis Schroder favors, or we should be, he can figure his future out all on his own at this point.
