“If we are so fortunate to win a championship, I think Lakers fans need to rest assured that if we are ever in that position we will have something where everybody can feel that connection to the team and to celebrate safely, because as you said, we are in a pandemic and large gatherings are prohibited, and we want to keep everybody safe.

“This really is for the fans. Laker fans, we feel disconnected from our team, and hopefully we’ll be able to celebrate. And no matter what happens, we want to celebrate this team because they’ve really given us so many moments of joy this season during what has been a really down, depressing time for all of us going through so many different things.”

The Lakers are extremely low on trade assets, which means the best way to add talent may be to take on good players on bad contracts.

Reuniting Love and LeBron James would be a shock after James left the Cleveland Cavaliers two years ago, but the 32-year-old power forward proved to be a perfect stretch big man next to the four-time MVP.

Love put up 17.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game and nailed 37.4 percent of his three-pointers this season, and putting him next to Anthony Davis would help hide his defensive deficiencies.

Green, Caldwell-Pope (player option) and McGee (player option) are all on expiring deals, and Cleveland would likely try to move all three to contending teams for draft picks or young talent.

Lakers now 3rd in the league for 3-point percentage at 40.0%. They were 21st in the league last season. The Lakers still ranks 23rd at 32.2 3-point attempts this season, same as last season with 31.1 attempts per game.

Obviously, if they continue to shoot the three this well, they ought to increase their attempts per game even more. Upping their attempts to the league average of 35 shots per game could be the key to adding 5 points per game and making them the #1 offense in the league.

Want to know the defining moment of these NBA Finals? If you blinked you might have missed it.

With 6:33 left in the second quarter of Tuesday’s Game 4, LeBron James checked out for the Lakers to take his usual rest. At the time the Lakers were already down five, and one thought perhaps the Heat could take a commanding lead over the next few minutes.

Four minutes later James checked back in … and the Lakers were winning. L.A. outscored Miami 12-6 in the time James sat out, regaining a bit of control in a game that seemed on edge of slipping away.

Big deal, you say? I understand. On the surface, it was another superstar-driven performance by the Lakers in Game 4. James and Anthony Davis, their incredible superstar combo, combined for 50 points, 21 rebounds, 12 assists and four blocks in the Lakers’ 102-96 win. L.A.’s dynamic duo had nearly half the team’s points, exactly half the rebounds and assists, and all the blocks. Surely, they were the lead story.

Hyde: Heat play tough, but LeBron and Lakers too much to handle

I know what you want to say about the Miami Heat’s loss in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, because I want to say the same thing, too. You want to say it was a valiant loss, a commendable battle.

You want to salute Bam Adebayo for playing hurt, and the underdog Heat for playing hard, even in defeat, especially in the despair of a 102-96 loss that left the Los Angeles Lakers an inevitable one more win from the title.

But sorry. When you don’t win at this point, you lose. When you can’t find a way save a night, you lose the game. And so when the Heat kept pulling close, or even at, 83-83, for a passing moment, it made for a dramatic game.

That doesn’t change the fact that the Lakers and LeBron James made the big plays when needed. These games are in the Disney complex, after all, not on The Disney Channel so wishing on a star won’t make these underdog Heat dreams happen.
