I dunno, we managed that w/o AD and LBJ who are both average defenders when they coast and above-average when they kinda try. They can be elite when they’re locked in and motivated.
You also have to factor in that the Lakers were atrotious offensively, often taking bad shots at the end of the clock. I suspect that’s partly why their defensive numbers still remained positive. Low scoring games bolster defensive ratings. Poor offense often leads to low scoring teams. Not saying we ddidn’t have a good defense but it sure wasn’t as good as the stats are saying without LeBron and AD. Also, AD’s defensive rating sucked all year long. Was among lowest on team.

Team play is rarely rewarded in sport unless you hoist the trophy which is a shame but understandable. Can’t give The Lakers DPOY, lol.
