I understand the frustration! The NBA’s free agency decisions can impact teams like the Lakers.
Remember, the Lakers’ performance impacts ratings, but free agency decisions are complex and involve a lot of financial considerations and maneuvering. I read somewhere that ESPN currently ranks post-free agency Lakers as the seventh-best team in the league. I’m not sure how much weight that carries, but the Lakers should be at the top.
I personally feel like this year’s finals would have had more juice if the Lakers were involved. I mean, it would have had an excellent rating more significant than the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks.
Competitive games drive ratings. A closely contested series, with multiple games going down to the wire, keeps viewers engaged. Blowout games can lead to tuning out, but nail-biters keep fans glued to their screens.
A combination of star power, historical rivalries, underdog narratives, close games, and captivating storylines would have made this year’s Finals a must-watch, surpassing the Celtics-Mavericks matchup in ratings.
I’d suggest getting used to this kind of “action”. Seeing the issues the Knicks are going to have to keep a young player they like are really all one should need to understand how difficult it is to be over the 2nd apron. That applies not just to this season but future ones. Draft picks will be vital rebuilding tools in a way they haven’t been in the history of the sport. Not as trade throw ins, especially for non-elite players, but as internal rebuilding mechanisms.
In other news the rumor that the Bulls offered LaVine for CP3 and Wiggins was rebuffed shows how toxic big money deals are for under-performing players.
This change had nothing to do with the Lakers because Jeannie never spends the money to trigger any of these penalties anyway. This was to reign in a guy like Balmer which is why PG13 is now a free agent. Jeannie probably loves these new restrictions.
