https://x.com/Digits3App/status/1855617430808076391While Bronny James is the headliner for this game, keep an eye on Quincy Olivari. The rookie out of Xavier impressed in the preseason, including scoring 22 points on 5-9 shooting from deep in the Lakers’ final exhibition game.

If Lakers invest 2 picks in player, he needs to be young, inexpensive, & good enough to start right now.
Walker Kessler fits description perfectly as elite rim protector & offensive rebounder who could start next to and unleash AD in dominant 2-bigs lineups.

I don't think there's a better young center prospect whom the Lakers can go after than Kessler. I love that he wants to develop a 3-point shot. He's exactly the type of player whom we should use our picks for. Don't have enough for superstar but Sexton and Kessler would be great.

DLO personally scored as many points last night as the entire bench averaged the first 8 games. His scoring and playmaking are perfect for the Lakers bench. If Dalton Knecht hit 3 threes instead of missing all of his takes, the Lakers might have broken 40 bench points, which is what they need to produce to be a top-10 bench team.
-
I have said for the last 2-3 years that LBJ should be a shooting guard, but we don’t have enough to put him there. Too bad. Let’s give him the looks that he gives everybody else.
-
With DLO going to the bench, LBJ actually ends up playing a lot more point guard, which is good for the starting lineup. Bench definitely benefits from DLO’s playmaking and scoring. Trade for Kessler, start him, move Rui to bench alongside DLO. That’s move Pelinka needs to make.

It’s interesting because Ham justified moving Reaves to the bench because he was not playing well and worn out and Russell might not be as team oriented with the move.
Now Redick faces same situation and decides Russell is the better player to go to the bench, regardless of how he might take it. Personally, I think Russell will have a chance to compete for 6MOY if he plays great and doesn’t get traded.

The Lakers clearly need a second big who can start at center next to Anthony Davis in two-bigs lineups to eliminate the interior size disadvantage they face against teams with multiple bruising bigs.
It’s not just Jokic but Embiid and the Cavs and more and more teams whom Anthony Davis alone or with Rui just cannot handle. Lakers need to trade for Kessler and commit to two bigs. It doubles down on defense and freeing up AD to roam at both ends of the court.
If we’re going to trade picks, I’d rather do it for a 23-year old on a rookie contract than a questionable third star in their early 30’s. A young affordable 250 lb center who can start next to AD and protect the rim is worth it to this team. It solves the one vulnerability that they cannot solve from current roster.

Give the Trailblazers Vanderbilt for whatever it takes to make the deal work, and I would be okay with Jeremi Grant who is as stiff as Vanderbilt but far more talented…..

Olivari has produced volume threes in every appearance. Need to open up roster spots for him and Koloko. Both are great development prospects for the Lakers current rotation. Backup point guard and center.

While the 76ers were shorthanded without Embiid and Maxey, it was still good to see JJ change the starting lineup. Cam did a great job on PG and DLO’s offense was exactly what the bench needed. Had Dalton hit his shots, Lakers would have had an easy rout. As it is, good to remain undefeated at home and to get rid of the taste of losing that plagued us during the road trip.
Would have liked to see Koloko get more of a chance but Hayes had one of his best games defensively with 4 blocks. 13 blocks overall with AD having 4 and James having 3. Better D from the starters and better O from the bench. Good move, JJ.

Here’s why Bench DLO Works Under JJ Redick & Not Darvin Ham:
1. Ham literally treated DLO like a BENCH player & played him just 1 shift a Half, 18mpg. JJ played DLO 4 diff shifts.
2. HAM ALSO BENCHED RUI & AR ALONG W/ DLO AT ONE POINT AND STARTED ALL FORWARDS.
