Lebron ain’t giving up half his salary for any of these dudes left who would fit into that MLE. Lakers FO needed to be ready to move quickly but that’s never been Rob’s strong suit (not sure he has one). CP3 & JV didn’t even wait around to go to a contender…

NBA working hard to do nothing to give Rob Pelinka excuse for doing nothing. New CBA & penalties have turned NBA offseason into a huge dud.
This is starting to feel like so many previous Lakers free agency periods with us failing to find a deal they like and failing to go all-in. https://t.co/hlxpAWY0s8— LakerTom (@LakerTom) June 30, 2024

I understand the frustration! The NBA’s free agency decisions can impact teams like the Lakers.
Remember, the Lakers’ performance impacts ratings, but free agency decisions are complex and involve a lot of financial considerations and maneuvering. I read somewhere that ESPN currently ranks post-free agency Lakers as the seventh-best team in the league. I’m not sure how much weight that carries, but the Lakers should be at the top.
I personally feel like this year’s finals would have had more juice if the Lakers were involved. I mean, it would have had an excellent rating more significant than the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks.
Competitive games drive ratings. A closely contested series, with multiple games going down to the wire, keeps viewers engaged. Blowout games can lead to tuning out, but nail-biters keep fans glued to their screens.
A combination of star power, historical rivalries, underdog narratives, close games, and captivating storylines would have made this year’s Finals a must-watch, surpassing the Celtics-Mavericks matchup in ratings.

I’d suggest getting used to this kind of “action”. Seeing the issues the Knicks are going to have to keep a young player they like are really all one should need to understand how difficult it is to be over the 2nd apron. That applies not just to this season but future ones. Draft picks will be vital rebuilding tools in a way they haven’t been in the history of the sport. Not as trade throw ins, especially for non-elite players, but as internal rebuilding mechanisms.

In other news the rumor that the Bulls offered LaVine for CP3 and Wiggins was rebuffed shows how toxic big money deals are for under-performing players.

Hi, Tom!! I have a question: why does it take so long to connect to the Blog? I have been experiencing this problem since the last time the blog was hacked or compromised in May. Whenever I try to log in, it takes forever to connect. Sometimes, I even give up and go on to something else. Am I the only one who is experiencing this problem?

Max Christie's return wasn't totally expected because of their apron concerns, but great to see they prioritized bringing him back.
The Los Angeles Lakers currently have 13 players rostered, not including LeBron James and Bronny James who will eventually sign.
They are now $39… https://t.co/TkfyhUBrGr

Hmmm? Is that LeBron’s lowered salary?

Gonna be harder to get down to that MLE number with every guy from last year staying here. LBJ gonna have to play for the min.

Aloha
Trying to keep up with all the updates hitting my phone. Apparently the Lakers are pursuing everyone in the NBA. lol.

Yes, the Lakers are casting a wide net. I would like to see them catch a big fish. Michael, what do any of you think of the Pelicans center, Valenciounas? What about Derozan? Which player(s) are you more interested in? A lot is being said about Klay Thompson, but I am weary of his health and the mental toll that goes with it. I am even more weary of Chris Paul. He just can’t seem to play a full season. so, I would like to see us get a center that provides help to AD just like in the Bubble. What do you guys think?

In a way, you would think that is a good idea simply because of the urgency to win a chip in LeBron’s final years, making his age at 36 non-relevant, but 23mil? As much as I like Lopez, that number needs a lot of calibration to bring it down. I mean, a lot of sacrifice on his part. But who knows? He might be tempted to take the bait.

Depending on how much money the Los Angeles Lakers send out, and what type of salary LeBron James is willing to take, there's a pathway for them to acquire Jerami Grant and use the $12.9 million mid-level exception while fielding a roster under the $178.7 million first apron. https://t.co/YkOUZ2lndm

Aloha,
so Lebron would be willing to take a pay cut for Klay Thompson. At the full MLE, Klay is probably worth it, if he can still defend at a reasonable level. But is he really the answer? We have good 3 point shooting and under JJ they will get more looks from 3. lebron is one of the grearest ever to play but as a GM he has been terrible. There is a long list of failed aquistions that Lebron pushed for. anyone remember Westbrook? if he were smart he would realize that splitting the MLE amomg a couple of solid role players would be more benieficial than signing one aging former star. i wont be mad if it happens, I just think we could do better than adding Klay.
-
It’s not like James Harden, Klay Thompson, and Jonas Valanciunas are the right list. Frankly, it’s who we’re likely to get in trade of the picks that will be more important. LeBron has flipped the pressure totally on Pelinka though and that’s good because Rob needs to be pushed to go all in. Now he has little choice. Make the right smart moves that will fill the holes not just names.
-
Just putting on my conspiracy hat for a second. I think Jeannie & Rob had a chance to wrestle a lil bit of power & control back from Lebron with the Hurley hire. That was clearly a move geared toward the future with Lebron having no influence on the decision. When it fell through, it gave even MORE power to Lebron. Now he’s got his son here (not sure Hurley woulda signed off on that), his coach/puppet JayJay, and now he’s dangling this paycut thing to control free agency. Come at the King you best not miss……(Omar Little).

Getting Kessler and Dunn for removing the protections from the 2027 FRP we owe the Jazz should be a no-brainer for Rob.
-
-
I like Kessler but I think that’s is not enough for him. As for Dunn, Vincent is every bit as good defensively as Dunn. It’s like you forgot why we signed the guy. He only played 11 games. Defensively he was solid in the playoffs. Unfortunately he has been out so long he couldn’t find his rhythm offensively. It was like training camp for him.
-
We’ll have to A2D. I think Dunn is a better defender and much cheaper. We need Gabe’s salary in trades too. Time to cut bait imo
