Personally, can only speak for myself, I’m more impressed with the fact that the US women hoopers are on the verge of a 60 game Olympic winning streak than at the comeback I saw today. That, my friends, is what dominance looks like.

    Let’s go ladies!!!!

    • i’ve always coveted Bogdanovic. Great play by the Lakers greats. LeBron, Steph, KD, Embiid. What a comeback. Clutch LeBron defending Joker. Triple double. Do they have MVP for Men’s BB? If so, LeBron is it.

      • Tom, I didn’t get a chance to watch the game. LeBron had a triple double? From what I was told, the team had their backs against the wall. If that was the case then they better wake up. Nobody is going to give them the trophy, and they better bring us the gold.

        • Serbia was on fire the first three quarters from deep, especially Bogdan. Team USA upped their defense in the fourth with LeBron on Joker and clutch play from orior NBA MVPs James, Curry, Embiid, and Durant.

          • Thanks, Tom. I just watched the replay. The game was full of suspense. Here is my recap of the game.
The team indeed survived Serbia’s upset bid, winning 95-91 after trailing by double digits. Steph Curry’s 36 points and LeBron’s triple-double propelled them to victory 12. 🏅🇺🇸
The stakes were high—the winner would advance to the gold medal game. But this wasn’t just any game; it was a battle of giants, a clash of basketball titans.
This game was pretty much an underdog’s roar for the most part, but the team snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Serbia came out swinging, led by their maestro, Nikola Jokic. The scoreboard tilted in their favor, and with each Serbian basket, the crowd held its breath. The U.S. trailed by 17 points entering the fourth quarter—a deficit that felt insurmountable. But then, Stephen Curry ignited a spark. His three-pointers rained down like meteors, and LeBron James orchestrated plays with surgical precision. The gap narrowed, and suddenly, the impossible seemed within reach.
With seconds remaining, the score stood at 93-91 in favor of Team USA. Serbia had possession, and the crowd’s collective heartbeat echoed through the arena. Jokic received the ball, eyes locked on the basket. But Anthony Edwards, the breakout star of the Olympics, lunged. His outstretched hand deflected the shot, and time expired. Victory hung in the balance, suspended like a tightrope walker over a chasm.
As the final buzzer sounded, relief flooded the American players. They had dodged a bullet—a cannonball fired by fate. Had they lost, the world would have gasped, headlines screaming, “David Slays Goliath!” But they survived, etching their names into Olympic lore. LeBron, Curry, and Edwards—the architects of resilience—would be remembered not just for their points but for their defiance of destiny.
Now, Team USA faces France in the gold medal game. The Bercy Arena awaits, its French fans ready to roar. LeBron, Durant, and Embiid—the seasoned warriors—know this is their Everest. They’ll battle not just for gold but for redemption, for a legacy that transcends stats and medals. And when the final buzzer sounds, the world will hold its breath once more, wondering if they can dodge one more bullet—the one that writes their names in golden ink.

      • That 4th was orchastrated by LBJ!!

      • The funny thing is Serbia didn’t make any three point shots in the 4th quarter. That is when our defense picked up. We outscored Serbia 32-15 in the final frame. That will do it.

    • Abbott, as noted in the original IG post, has been on the Bulls staff. He was hired by Billy Donovan in 2020-21 as a player development coach.

Prior to that, Abbott was a development coach for the Sixers in the 2018-19 season. That season also happened to be the final season JJ Redick spent on the Sixers, which likely led to the relationship between the two initially forming. Abbott also spent a season as a coach in the G League in 2018-19 with the Delaware Blue Coats, an incredible team name.

Prior to that, Abbott had a playing career that began at Arizona State before stops across Europe.

Which means basically for a year, or whenever draft day is next summer. No surprise here, Jazz brass (Trader Danny) never really “dangled” LM, they just never said he was off limits. If you play for a team with Ainge as the GM you should probably know, or gain the knowledge, that any player can be had…for the right over-prince.

When that deal didn’t emerge this was the smartest path. Lock him up for 5 years, $238 mil and start building. After this season, depending on how he actually plays (and how much) it will be interesting to see what his market is. $40+ mil for a guy who hasn’t even taken a team to the playoffs is steep. Even LaVine has at least been the key player on playoff rosters. Yes, he’s technically an All-Star…once. So this should be interesting to see unfold.

What doesn’t change is how far under the minimum salary floor the Jazz or that they need to sign at least 2 players in order to meet the minimum roster requirements. Still something brewing over there just hard to discern what it could be.

    • Actually Jamie, they actually were allowed to add 24 mil to this years contract so the Jazz are now over the floor. They still need to add 3 players though.

      • GTK, thanks Michael!

        • I am left with bad feelings. The Lakers’ overall inactivity during the offseason raised my eyebrows initially, but then the painful sting took over. As a fan, I am worried that missed opportunities may come back to haunt the team in the 2024-25 season.
I am fully invested in their performance, so the inaction worsened things for me. Let’s hope for a successful season ahead!

    • It is ironic that the only year LeBron led the league in assists was the year the Lakers won their last championship. It’s always been an interesting challenge deciding what position LeBron James actually is playing on offense and defense.

      • Assuming he can return to the form he was playing right before getting injured last season, I would prefer Vando over Rui as fifth starter because he adds needed defense to the starting lineup.

    D’Angelo Russell

The Lakers’ most significant offseason move was hiring JJ Redick as head coach. If Darvin Ham and injuries were the problem, L.A. may be better. But that’s a lot to ask of a rookie head coach with zero NBA bench experience (even as an assistant) and a roster that seems flawed (at least defensively in the backcourt and up front at center behind Anthony Davis).

Russell, 28, has been solid for the Lakers over the last year and a half, but his regular-season game hasn’t translated well to the playoffs. The team has explored moving him but hasn’t found a suitor (the guard opted into his final year at $18.7 million in late June).

Perhaps the team didn’t expect everyone to opt in (Christian Wood, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes and Russell), but the team has a full roster of 15 guaranteed players at just under the NBA’s second apron of $188.9 million. While the Lakers don’t have a hard cap, any trade that adds salary (including via aggregation of player contracts) just isn’t feasible outside of taking on minimum players.

But the Lakers could look to reduce their payroll by trading Russell (perhaps paying a team like the Jazz, who still have cap room) in a two- or three-team trade that adds less-expensive talent to L.A.’s roster.

Other Lakers players who may be in the rumor mill this season include Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Wood and Reddish.
