“Team and league sources cautioned that the Lakers’ coaching search remains far from settled. Hurley and the Lakers have only made preliminary contact.
Until Hurley and the Lakers agree to terms, there is still a real chance the…

Important to remember that the Lakers have already met with JJ and that’s why he emerged as the favorite. Hurley needs to ace this meeting with Jeanie and Rob because he knows they also liked JJ.
There’s a point where the Lakers may not want to give up the kind of control that Hurley thinks he deserves. Then there’s the money and years thing. Kerr makes $17.5M, Spoelstra makes $15M. Redick will cost a lot less.
I don’t look at this as we a 50% chance of landing Hurley. I view it as we have a 100% chance of landing Hurley or Redick. I would be happy with either. Personally, I think it would help the Lakers for Jeanie and Rob to give up some control to Hurley,
I just like JJ and wonder whether being younger and a former player c/b better in the end. JJ’s not the proven coach Dan is but that might be better in this situation. I think Dan may have lower floor but JJ a higher ceiling. Let’s see what Jeanie and Rob think tomorrow.

…and UCONN ain’t just gonna go quietly into that good night and watch their coach walk away. They’ll up their offer and make him the highest paid coach in college Bball..around $10mill a year. That’s probably as high as the Lakers are willing to go as well. Are we willing to do that for 8-10 years?

Hurley wants to be highest paid head coach in NBA. Kerr makes $17.5M and Spoelstra $15M. Lakers readying major long-term offer. 10 years $200M?

0 chance of that. 99,99% chance of the fanbase turning on whomever they hire within 25 games.

Nah….he ain’t getting that. If that’s his asking price he’s crazy. And there’s no way Jeanie will pay that for any coach.

That is a massive amount…and approving it could make ownership look bad if he becomes the next failed college coach to make the jump (Pitino, Calipari, Carlissimo…all at the transition)…However it is like a two pronged approach…in that you get a coach (and a new staff) to shake up the current team and push for a title while LeBron is still around and before AD turns to shards again….and you get a coach, who if given the time and chance likely has the abilities to develop young players (Hood-Schifino, Max Christie, Reaves, even Hachimura….Reddish and Hayes….)…and the Bronny factor.

5-years $100M would make him the highest paid coach in the NBA.

Speaking about money…was not long ago there were many people doubting the Lakers would fire the last coach (forgot his name) and eat the last 2 years of his contract ($10million over 2 years)….the old adage about business …“You have to spend money to make money.”/ Titus Maccius Plautus from the 200s–100s BC….
