Aloha,
The latest rumor circulating around the LeBron and the Lakers saga is that LeBron wants Sam Presti to replace Rob. Who knows if that’s true, but he certainly went out of way to praise Presti. While he might be an upgrade it really demonstrates how out of touch he is with basketball matters when it doesn’t involve action on the court.
From my view point Presti is the most overrated GM in the NBA.
Sure he drafted well but let me ask this. When the Trailblazers decided to draft Greg Oden, leaving Durant sitting there, how hard was that decision? I’m mean is there a amateur Lakerholic who wouldn’t do the same? And when the Griz passed on Harden for Thabeet, how hard was that? Is Sam Presti skilled or just lucky? It’s mid to late first round, 2nd round and undrafted players where the skill lays.
Presti had KD, Russ, Harden, and Ibaka and only made one finals appearance. He was never able to put a good supporting cast around them, and traded Harden, although that may have been the owner’s call to avoid paying him.
This is just another reason I really don’t care for GM LeBron. He needs a Gam skilled at putting a supporting cast around him, not a guy who had good fortune in the draft. Give me the Warriors front office any day. They built their core without a top 3 pick. Presti had 3 of them, found Green in the 2nd and constantly built a quality supporting cast. No wonder KD left for the Warriors.

Oh, I forgot to mention he had Westbrook, Pg and Steven Adams, along with Melo for one year. They won 48 and 49 games in the two seasons and lost in the first round each year. Again it’s apparent why PG wanted out. It’s interesting that Russ was part of both of OKC’s high profile squads.

Well I want the Lebron that can carry a bum roster to the finals, so I guess neither of us gets our wish.

LMAO. Come on, Michael. You know that was a baseless rumor from an unnamed front office person that was the result of LeBron praising Presti and people jumping on that as a slight to Rob at the least and proof LeBron wanted Sam as GM at the most outrageous. Nothing there and you know it.

And you know this because?

There will be plenty of scuttlebutt from here in out unless we start putting up Ws. LeBron did himself no favors over the ASB, Frank hasn’t done himself a favor all season with all his weird rotation choices, and so on. Some things have been out of our control but the team’s energy has been bad all season long. We’ve underwhelmed at every opportunity. That’s why it’s hard for me to see a big turnaround. Like…what would change that suddenly we just start playing with better energy? If I thought firing Frank would fix that I’d back it right away. It’s just I don’t think he’s the reason. I think we’ve maxed out the roster.
