Didn’t take long for the fingers to begin pointing at my man Russ…lol. But perimeter defense was my concern as soon as this roster was put together. There are just too many elite guards in the game today for us to go out there lacking elite defenders to match up. And that’s the way Frankie has been successful as a defensive coach…with big athletic guards who can shoot a decent 3pt percentage. Yeah..we have good 3pt shooters and we have some competent defenders but who do we have who can do both? That’s how you end up with Melo losing his jock strap on the floor getting blown by in crunch time. Then an air-ball 3 to top it off.
One of the many problems I see with our team is that we’re asking too many guys to be who they really aren’t. We want AD to be a Center. We want LeBron to be a Power Forward. We want Frankie to change his coaching philosophy/system. We want Russ to be….I’m not even sure what we’re trying to turn Russ into. It’s a long season….until it isn’t.

l have been skeptical about our three point shooters as well. However, the more I see the players getting more confident in their new roles the more I feel like it’s just a matter of time before the three point fire works begin. So far my main concern has been their inability to defend the three point line, but I am pretty confident that will be resolved sooner rather than later. I am learning to be patient with a new team even though I get to scratch my head a lot because of poor defense and silly turnovers. But that’s what you get when you have to start all over with a new team.
