Obviously teams like Thunder and Magic present themselves as opportunistic when these deals come up. If Presti or Weltman (As Chuck called him “the nerd”) can offer a sweetener for the chance to obtain a young controllable player…sure…they would. I’d bet dollars to donuts one of them actually will.
I don’t see why Portland wouldn’t wait for at least a big chunk of the season to go through, see what they can do to augment the line up and give Billups a shot to make it all work well. Same thing for Myles Turner, IMO, these teams are not free agent destinations so guys who make an impact and are under contract for any length of time are precious commodities to them. Both teams just got new coaches, both teams have some ancilliary pieces that could re-sign or move on thus giving them a chance to tweak the roster with high level talent dudes under contract through next season and beyond (Myles could be a trade deadline topic, he’s only got one year left after this one on his deal).
Feels like a lot of this “news” is just the early onset of the dog days in markets where no playoffs are happening prior to the Summer games.
