"For the first time, I believe the likelihood of [CJ] McCollum being traded this summer is probable, if not certain," wrote @jwquick.
He has heard that the Celtics could be interested in McCollum, and mentions that Marcus Smart would fit well in Portland: https://t.co/kWbi8r7KAI

This is the thing with the trade market: we donโt have the ponies or the draft picks to move anyoneโs needle. We got 2 guys weโre not trading and spare parts that nobody really needs. The 22nd pick in the draft that can only be traded 30 days after isnโt a haul.

This makes a ton of sense for the Blazers, hard for me to see Brad trading the heart and soul of that squad but both teams are in that limbo of making the playoffs without having enough to go deep. Gotta do something.

They need to keep Norm or find a replacement for him.

If I’m Boston I’m not blowing that thing up already. They’ve got a good core that maybe just needs a fresh voice as the head coach. That dude pulled Nia Long…he’s gotta be doing something right..lol

Yup, that trade above feels like a lateral, at best.
MongoSlade says
Not just lateral but Smart is the heart & soul of that squad. Thats the stuff that gets lost in this analytical era.. you can’t quantify that.

You never know because it only takes one team to believe in a player to overpay. The idea that Lowry could be had for Schroder, KCP, and THT for example. I would do that trade agaion in a moment and then take Kuzma and swap him and filler for Buddy Hield.
Of course, the big problem with the above scenario is the Lakers wouldn’t have enough filler to match salaries for Buddy, which is why they likely can only land one starter via trade. Best may be to make some deals to add trading chips to be moved at the trade deadline. Ending up with a team full of UFA’s was the part of the failure fallout from not trading for Lowry.
